Little Explorers: a play-based social skills group for children aged 4–7

Some four-year-olds cannot yet join a game that is already going. Some five-year-olds fall apart when the tower falls, or when it is someone else’s turn. Some have never been in a room of children without a parent beside them.
None of that means something is wrong. Waiting, taking turns, joining in and coming back from a big feeling are skills, and at this age they are learnt by doing, with other children, while an adult names what just happened.
Little Explorers gives four children a small, predictable room to practise exactly that, one Thursday afternoon a week for four weeks.
This may be a good fit if your child…
Finds waiting and taking turns hard.
Plays beside other children more than with them.
Has big feelings when a plan changes.
Has not yet been part of a small group.
No diagnosis is needed, and none is assumed. Tell us a little about your child and we will say honestly whether the group is the right fit.
Small on purpose
Four children and two adults. One adult to every two children. That is what lets one facilitator step aside with a child who needs a minute while the game carries on for the other three, and what makes it possible to notice the moment a child waits, joins in or tries again. It is the reason the group is capped at four, and the reason it costs what it does.
The same shape every week. A welcome circle, an expedition course, the week’s mission, a calm story, a closing circle. A picture schedule sits on the wall at child height and an adult moves the arrow. Children this age settle when they know what comes next, and a settled child has energy left for the hard part.
Movement first. Crawling under, stepping over, carrying, pushing. Movement and heavy work are the most reliable settling tools a four-year-old has, so here they are the warm-up rather than the reward. The room is movement-rich and sensory-friendly, and the Calm Cove is open all session: any child may go, with an adult, and come back when ready.
Developed with our senior clinical psychologists. They shaped the programme, they read every intake questionnaire before a group is formed, and they review every end-of-block summary before it reaches you. The sessions themselves are facilitated by our team. The design is evidence-informed, drawing on established play-based and emotion-coaching practice and the CASEL competencies for social-emotional learning.
Honest about what it is. A play-based skills group, not therapy in the clinical sense. Four sessions is a first block, and we will not tell you it changes a child. What a block can do is written below, in plain words, and it is all we will claim.
Four missions, one explorer
Thursdays 22 Oct, 29 Oct, 5 Nov, 12 Nov 2026 · 3.30 – 4.45pm · Solaris Mont Kiara
Every week has a mission, a puppet story and one five-minute practice for home. The four build on each other, so the same four children come every week and the group closes once it starts.
My Body, My Space
22 Oct. Slow, just right, fast: three words for how a body feels, learnt by running the course at three speeds. Then hula-hoop bubbles, and asking before you come in.
The Team Road
29 Oct. My turn, your turn. Pairs lay a road of foam tiles across the room, one tile each, until it reaches base camp and everyone walks it.
Big Feelings Engineers
5 Nov. Uh-oh, Plan B. Each child builds a tower, and the wind keeps blowing a block off. A planned disappointment in a safe place, with an adult beside them.
The Team Quest
12 Nov. A treasure map in four pieces, one per child, so the group cannot finish without everyone. You join us at 4.30 for the certificates.
Every session runs 75 minutes to the same shape: a welcome circle with picture cards, where no child has to speak; the expedition course; the week’s mission; then lights down for a puppet story and bubble breathing in the Calm Cove; and a closing circle where each child shows one thing they did. Water only, no snack, shoes off.
You are part of the block
An Explorer Note every week
In your child’s bag at pick-up: the week’s word, one five-minute practice for home, and one line about what the group did.
A call after week 2
Fifteen minutes with the facilitator, booked for every family. How the practices are landing at home, and one adjustment for the last two weeks.
The last fifteen minutes of week 4
You join the group for the treasure map, the certificates, and one specific thing we saw your child do, prepared the night before.
A written summary at the end
Within a week of the last session: what your child did across the four weeks, what helped, one thing to keep practising, and an honest next step. Reviewed by one of our clinical psychologists before it is sent.
Everything comes home in writing, so it does not matter who does the pick-up. Your child also keeps their Explorer Passport and a small kit of the cards used in the room, so it carries on at home.
Four weeks is a start
A shared language for feelings and energy: slow, just right, fast, and four feelings cards, used at home the same way as in the room.
Four rehearsed moments of waiting, taking turns and trying again, each one named by an adult as it happened.
One practice for home every week, five minutes long, written down.
An honest written note at the end about what would help next.
We do not promise a change in your child, and we will not. Four sessions is a first block. Blocks repeat, with New Trails and Base Camp to follow, and the summary at the end says whether a second one would help, including when the answer is that your child is done.
The first group is for four- and five-year-olds
A four-year-old and a seven-year-old are different developmental worlds, so groups are formed in two bands, 4–5 and 6–7, and every child in a group is within about eighteen months of the others. Block 1 opens the 4–5 band.
Six and up, our psychologists will suggest which group fits: Little Explorers when the 6–7 group opens, or Growing Together, our weekend workshop for ages 6–12, if your child can manage a longer morning in a group of six. You hear the answer in the psychologist’s words.

Before you reserve a place
Is this therapy?
No. Little Explorers is a play-based skills group, not therapy in the clinical sense. It was developed with our senior clinical psychologists, who read every questionnaire and review every summary, and it is facilitated by our team. If what your child needs is some one-to-one time with a psychologist first, we would rather say so than sell you a block, and it is the psychologist who says it.
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No, and none is assumed. The group is for any four- to seven-year-old who would benefit from practising turns, waiting and big feelings in a small room, which is most of them. If your child has a diagnosis or support in place, tell us on the questionnaire so the psychologist can plan the group around it. It does not exclude anyone.
My child has never been in a group without me.
That is who the 4–5 group is for. A caregiver stays on the premises for the whole of week 1, there are two adults in the room, and the Calm Cove is open all session for any child who needs a minute. No child is made to speak, and every child can pass.
What can four weeks actually do?
Give your child a shared language for feelings and energy, four rehearsed moments of waiting and trying again, one five-minute practice for home each week, and an honest written note at the end about what would help next. It cannot change a child in four afternoons, and we will not tell you it does. Blocks repeat, and the summary says whether a second one would help.
My child is six. Which group?
Six and up, our psychologists decide from the questionnaire. Growing Together, the weekend workshop for ages 6–12, if your child can manage a three-hour morning in a group of six. Little Explorers if a smaller room, a shorter session, more movement or a first experience of a group would serve them better. You hear the answer in the psychologist’s words.
Can I stay and watch?
Not in the room after week 1. Four children settle faster without an audience, and the group’s own rhythm is part of what works. You hear from us in writing every week, you have a call after week 2, and you join the last fifteen minutes of week 4.
What happens after the block?
Within a week you receive a written summary with one of four next steps: another block, Growing Together for a child of six or over, a conversation with one of our psychologists, or complete. It is a recommendation, and sometimes the recommendation is that your child is done.
Four children. Four Thursdays.
Block 1 runs Thursdays 22 Oct to 12 Nov 2026, for four- and five-year-olds. Registration closes Friday 16 October, or when the group is full.
Or write to hello@2-bloom.com
Messaging us does not commit you to anything. We reply within a day with the registration form and the fee, and nobody pays before the psychologist has read your child’s questionnaire.
Not sure it is the right fit? Say a little about your child. One of our clinical psychologists reads every questionnaire and will tell you honestly which group suits them.
